Army recovers 144 cattle from raiders

Ethnic Bokora Karimojong women carried the commanding officer of the UPDF 27th battalion in Iriiri, Major Johnson Katongole, shoulder high on Sunday, as they celebrated the recovery of 144 cows raided by the ethnic Jie Karimojong.
“Katongole is our saviour. He has brought back our cows,†the women chanted in the local language, as they moved with him around the UPDF protected kraal.
A group of Jie Karimojong on Thursday night killed one soldier and injured another before disappearing with the cows and two guns.
The commanding officer of the UPDF 3rd division, Col. Patrick Kankiriho, explained that three raiders were killed and three guns recovered.
“Timely reporting of the raid enabled us to move swiftly and recover the animals,†Kankiriho affirmed.
The cows were recovered at Nyakwi hills, about 30 miles from the area.
The Moroto LC5 chairman, Peter Ken Lochap, witnessed the handover of the cows, presided over by the UPDF 403 brigade commander, Lt. Col. Emmanuel Kanyesigye.
Kanyesigye appealed to the warriors to surrender all illegal guns and promised to protect them.
