LEADERS of Bukedea district have been urged to unite for the development of the area.

The state minister for disaster preparedness, Musa Ecweru, advised: “Bukedea is small but it has enormous potential. I appeal to the district leaders to put aside their personal and political differences and utilise the district’s resources for development.”

He was addressing the leaders at the Sports View Hotel in Kireka, Kampala on Saturday.

The minister urged politicians to work hard for the benefit of the residents.

“Those of you who think that the 2011 elections will be determined by political affiliations are living in the past. Ugandans have advanced from that. They will be interested in what you have done for your area,” Ecweru explained.

At the same meeting, the LC5 chairman, the Rev. Sam Ebukalin, called upon investors in the district to embark on growing fruits, especially mangoes and oranges for exportation.

The Woman MP, Rose Akol, called upon residents to work hard and be united to help the district out of poverty.

“Let our political party be Bukedea. This will cement a firm foundation for our baby district, upon which the future generations will be built,” she appealed.
