THE national team to the 35th World Cross -country championships in Mombasa on March 24 will travel directly from its base in Bukwo to the Kenya coastal town.

Busscar bus service will pick the contingent from the western Kenya town of Kitale tomorrow, local federation secretary, Beatrice Ayikoru, confirmed at the weekend.

World and Commonwealth Games steeplechase champion Dorcus Inzikuru is captain of the 26 athletes making the Uganda team for the world event.

The senior team is gunning for a podium finish after winning bronze medals five times in previous men events as junior runners.

“They have been preparing well. They will be picked by bus from camp on Wednesday and travel direct to Mombasa. We hope they will have recovered from the fatigue by Saturday,” explained Ayikoru.

The team has Moses Twesigomwe as team manager with Gordon Ahimbisibwe and Rehema Apio as coaches.

Nalis Bigingo, who has been helping in training the players, will not make the trip.
