RESIDENTS of Kamuli district have been advised to vote carefully in the forthcoming LC5 by-elections to avoid political wrangles.

RESIDENTS of Kamuli district have been advised to vote carefully in the forthcoming LC5 by-elections to avoid political wrangles.
“When will the Basoga stop being fooled? How can a person who does not have a degree deceive you that he is pursuing a master’s degree?†the National Agricultural Advisory Services chairman, Dr. David Kazungu, asked.
The LC5 bye-election is slated for May 10. This follows cancellation of Hajji Ahmed Kawugu Kawooya’s election by the High Court for lack of academic qualifications.
He advised the electorate not to vote a candidate who does not belong to a political party.
“The electorate must avoid past mistakes and vote for a person who will work harmoniously with the Government,†Kazungu said.
He was speaking at celebrations marking the good performance of Lunar International College in last year’s O’level examinations at Bugaya sub-county on Sunday. The best student in the district, Wilbrod Oketcho, was given a sh2m cheque by the school director, Eng. David Mbadwe.
The Budiope county MP, Henry Balikowa, warned residents against electing a candidate from the opposition.
The Kamuli NRM chairman, Aggrey Bangu, who contested in the February 2006 elections, filed the petition but will not contest.
The FDC has nominated its vice-president and former Bugabula South MP, Salaamu Musumba, to contest, while the NRM on Saturday chose former district speaker, Stephen Mubiru.
