HEAD teachers need to emphasise Swahili in schools, the Wakiso district LC5, chairman, Ian Kyeyune, has said.

Kyeyune said this would help them compete favourably in East Africa. Speaking at the commissioning of a sh350m three-storied block at the Nile College, Kasangati recently, he said: “If you want to join the East African Community, you should teach Swahili, which is commonly used in the region.”

He told teachers that they should assist students by forming language clubs that will help them learn foreign languages faster.

“The best performing musicians have mixed their songs with English, Luganda, and Swahili and this has helped them sell their music in the region.”
