Cranes custodian Denis Onyango will be out of competitive football for five weeks after suffering a head injury in a game in South Africa on Saturday.

Onyango, who turns out for SuperSport United, was rushed to hospital after sustaining the injury during a Castle Premiership match against Mamelodi Sundowns. Sundowns beat SuperSport 2-0.

The Cranes custodian collided with Sundowns’ striker Jose Torrealba in the first half. He was transferred to a Pretoria hospital as he was unable to continue with the game.

“I feel somehow better but the hospital authorities have told me to stay for further observation,” said the 21-year-old Onyango.

His club had fears that Onyango would have to undergo an operation similar to the one that Chelsea’s Petr Cech faced. The Chelsea keeper underwent surgery for a depressed fracture on the skull after colliding with Reading’s Stephen Hunt in a Premiership match last year.

Cech was knocked unconscious. He now puts on a head gear for protection.

Another South Africa-based player, David Obua of Kaizer Chiefs, shrugged off a slight knee injury that had seen him stretchered off in his team’s 1-1 draw against Maroka Swallows.
“I managed to train today morning.

It was not serious,” he said.
The two South-Africa based players were part of the Cranes side that lost 1-0 to Nigeria’s Super Eagles on April 24.

The local soccer governing body FUFA has started preparing for the return game on June 2. They announced ticket prices yesterday and an arrangement for a railway link for the game.

FUFA has asked the Rift Valley Railways Corporation, the company that took over from Uganda Railways, to avail a train for the fans that will turn up for the Uganda-Nigeria match.

“We have already written to them and we hope the answer will be positive,” said FUFA president Lawrence Mulindwa yesterday.

Mulindwa believes that a train will be able to help avoid a traffic jam to Namboole. Mulindwa also clarified that the entry fee for the match will be sh10,000 for the stands, sh20,000 for the blue seats and sh40,000 for pavilion.

FUFA also revealed that starting with the Nigeria match, all the national team jerseys will have names of players adorned on their back for easy identification, a move that will help the federation sell replica jerseys to the fans.

“One advantage we are having is that we are more consistent now. We know which players will be featuring for a match and this helps us plan,” added Mulindwa
