UGANDAN top business executives and conservationists have formed a partnership to promote the sustainable use of protected areas countrywide.

The team is led Sam Nahamya, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Industry. He is deputised by Andrew Kasirye.

It was formed at a meeting at Mweya Safari Lodge in Queen Elizabeth National Park. They agreed to engage in dialogue with each other rather than conflict in the quest to achieve development for Uganda.

They launched a new initiative codenamed leadership for Conservation and Sustainable Development in Uganda, under which businessmen and conservationists will be sensitised on each other’s roles.

The team comprises Gordon Wavamunno, Elly Karuhanga, George Nisbet and Denis Kashero.

The concept of bringing businessmen and conservationists into formal dialogue began recently with the launch of the leadership for Conservation in Africa in South Africa.

According to a press statement by Lillian Nsubuga, the spokesperson of UWA, the priority actions for the team include mobilising themselves to make the network wider and to develop a strategic plan of activities.
