A SCARCITY of food has led to an increase in prices during the Easter holidays, survey results show.

A kiosk attendant in Nakasero Market said that towards ceremonial days, the suppliers create the scarcity in order to increase the demand for their produce.

“This implies that the prices go up since so many people are always supposed to buy food. Some families even stock more food because prices are hiked everyday,” the trader explained.
In Kibuye and Nakawa markets, beef was scarce.

The price of a bunch of matooke increased to sh7,000 from sh5,000. A sack of Irish potatoes went for sh35,000 from sh30,000.
