THE Police in Mukono are hunting for a nurse suspected to have given an overdose of malaria drugs to two children, allegedly causing their death.

The crime chief, Wacha Kaazi, said the incident occurred on January 8 at Namumira village.

He identified the victims as six-year-old Hawusala Kyaterekera and four-year-old Resty Nambuya, both children of Grace Navuga.

The children had different fathers.
Kaazi explained that the children were allegedly suffering from malaria and they were taken to a nearby new clinic by their aunt, Imerida Nalweyiso.

After receiving treatment, they returned home and slept. They were found dead in their beds.

Kaazi said a postmortem showed that they died of respiratory failure due to an overdose.

Meanwhile, the National Drug Authority is investigating cases of fake quinine drug supplies in Masaka district.

A total of 143 tins of suspected fake drugs were impounded from the district health department last week. The district director of health services, Dr. Stuart Musisi, said inquiries would be complete in two weeks.
