STEEL Works construction Company has embarked on the renovation of the 80-year-old Rubaga Cathedral in Kampala.

Archbishop Cyprian Lwanga Kizito recently said the repairs would be completed in five months.
He added: “Fundraising for the renovations was launched three years ago by Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala.”

He said the roof had been leaking for two years and this had affected the interior works that made the church unique.

A sum of sh598m will be needed for the repairs, of which sh289m is available. Lwanga was grateful for the sh82m raised in cash and pledges in February at the launch of Ssabasumba Annual Appeal Fund (2007), whose collections will go towards repairs.

He was optimistic that more money would be raised from Catholic parishes and well-wishers.
