Aisha Nabukeera, the girl who was burnt, allegedly by her step- mother, visited her former school in Nyendo, Masaka on Wednesday.

Teachers, pupils, parents and residents broke down in tears when they saw her. Nabukeera, 14, was on her way to Mbarara for a workshop on domestic violence but requested her guardian, Frank Gashumba, to stopover at her former school. Her mother, saphina Nakandi ,was with them.

Nyendo residents donated money to Nabukeera. One man, Francis Musaasizi, broke down as he asked the authorities to bring to book the people responsible for her condition.

Nabukeera tried to address the pupils but broke down and cried. She asked the pupils and teachers to pray for her to have a successful operation.

Masaka residents asked for a fundraising function so that they could contribute money towards Nabukeera’s treatment.

Gashumba said teachers and students of St. Lawrence SS donated sh2.3m on Tuesday and the director, Lawrence Mukiibi, offered nabukeera a scholarship until university.

He said nabukeera was to leave for Holland this month for her operation but they had only raised sh25m, half of the amount required.

He said they expected to get money from pledges and thanked the media for turning Nabukeera’s plight into a national issue.
