THE woodlouse (porcellis scaber), also called a slater, is a crustacean. It is oval-shaped and its body is divided into regular segments. It is greyish, sometimes yellowish in colour.

It lives in bathrooms, kitchens, wash houses, cellars, under doormats and in food materials stacked in damp places. The louse feeds mainly on heavily decayed wood, salt vegetable debris and also attacks stocks of vegetable foodstuffs in stores. In gardens, the wood louse eats and damages seedlings, young growing plants and flowers in nursery beds.

Control measure
For the control of the woodlouse, cracks, crevices, joints and other hiding places and areas where they live, should be sprayed with Baygon EC and solcac (WP,EC). Residual insecticides and fogs like (Mafu KN, Baygon HN) can also be used. Baygon DP can be used where liquids or fogs cannot be used. Keeping the places, where they usually hide, dry will keep many of them away.
