Parliament has directed the Kampala City Council (KCC) town clerk to halt developments on 11 Old Taxi Park plots.

The directive follows new investigations by MPs on the illegal lease of the plots by KCC to nine companies.

In a letter dated April 11, the committee headed by Saleh Kamba is investigating the matter and all developments should be stopped until the Parliament pronounces itself over the matter.

This as after a petition by the Non-Resident Tenants Association, presented to Parliament by MP Nathan Byanyima.

They accused KCC of insisting that the plots had been sold despite earlier directives not to do so.
The petitioners allege that the value of the plots is higher than what companies paid to KCC.

They want the sold property revoked and requested Parliament to ask the local government minister to table the report of inquiry for debate.

The report was authored by a committee headed by Prof. James Katorobo after the tenants petitioned President Yoweri Museveni last year.

The committee will hear from the mayor, the town clerk, the local government minister and area MPs.

Some of the companies accused of illegally obtaining the plots in 2005 are, Kanaba Agency, Aponye Uganda, Kabale Distributors, Key and Ham Investments, Giant Eagles, Contractors and Transporters Services, Abamwe Transporters, Kagodo Farmers, D.K.S Uganda and City Oil Uganda.
