SIR — I was very interested to read your report about the visit of the International Olympic President, Jacques Rogge, to Uganda when he met Patrick Etolu of Uganda’s 1956 Olympic Team. I do hope that as a result of that meeting and Jacques Rogge’s initiative that there will be an improvement in Etolu’s health and housing.

He deserves this help after representing Uganda so well in the past. You say that Etolu is the only surviving member of the 1956 team. That is not true as I was also in the team as the Coach and Chef de Mission and I am still alive and well! By a coincidence, I have lived in Melbourne for just over 30 years.

I lived in Uganda for nearly seven years and was a lecturer at Makerere College from April 1953 to December 1959 and it was a great honour for me to be given the responsibility for the team in Uganda, India and Australia all those years ago. I send my best wishes to the Olympic Movement in Uganda and to anyone who may still remember me.
