THE Ghanaian community in Uganda on Saturday night celebrated their 50th Independence anniversary. Clad in their traditional kitenge attire, the over 100 Ghanaians met at the residence of their countryman, Francis Mills Robertson, in Kololo and were treated to a dinner and traditional dances.
Robertson told guests that Ghana has dedicated this whole year to celebrating its 50 years of independence in different parts of the world. He thanked Ugandans for their hospitality and good working relations.
Besides Uganda’s and Ghana’s national anthems being played, guests were shown a film depicting violent scenes that characterised the independence struggle in Ghana.
The function was also attended by several Ugandans, including the Ghanaian consul in Uganda, Tom Buruku. The West African country got independence from Britain on March 6, 1957 after a struggle led by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
