THE crop of players at this year’s Coca Cola Schools soccer tournament would rate very well with that of Ibrahim Sekagya’s generation, former national coach Mike Mutebi has said.

“There has been a big improvement compared to the last two years. I can say that the crop of players in this year’s tournament are as good as that of the Sekagya generation,” Mutebi told Sanyu FM programme Sports Unlimited on Saturday.
Sekagya guided Naggalama Islamic to school soccer glory in the nineties.

Mutebi is in charge of talent scouting for the football governing body FUFA and has picked the best 26 players. The youth team will later travel for several friendlies in Kenya.
“This is an ideal recruitment ground. Technically, there is a lot of improvement,” Mutebi added.

He however still ranked the Kibuli team that dominated before the arrival of St. Mary’s Kitende as the greatest ever. The Kibuli side had Mutebi, Robert Aloro and Sam Ssimbwa in their line-up.

The 2007 select side:
Godwin Buule, Chrizestom Ntambi, Godfrey Walusimbi, Mickael Mutyaba, John Kalumba, Andrew Buteera, Farouk Ssentongo, Erukana Nkugwa, Sam Galiwango, Denis Guuma, Philip Wanoko, Moses Ssali, Ibrahim Sadam, Fred Inziku, Everist Kasujju, Nasi Muganga, Muhamed Ali, Godfrey Buni, George Opio, Ibrahim Sebatindira, Richard Mugerwa, Ivan Bukenya, Alex Kalibala, Ibrahim Kizza and Francis Loum.
