THOUSANDS of mourners on Saturday thronged the home of the fallen Brigadier Noble Mayombo in Kijura, Kabarole for his final send-off. With a big number of Government officials, foreign dignitaries and other mourners turning up, traffic was heavy and slow.

The vehicles were stopped two miles from Mayombo’s home, save for the Government and UPDF convoys. Five parking yards had been created before reaching the brigadier’s home but they were inadequate as they were swallowed by vehicles.

The mourners had to trek on foot under the scorching sun through a tea plantation and a semi-forest to get to the burial ground.

With soulful music from the army and Police brass brands playing, endless sobs and wails from mourners could be heard while the shock could be seen on many faces.

Mourners waited patiently for over seven hours as the burial service started at 10:00am and was completed at 5:00pm.
Finally with a 13-gun salute, Brig. Noble Mayombo was laid to rest after scores of people had lavished praise on the fallen hero.
