ZIMBABWEAN teenage rallying star Conrad Rautenbach looks set to clinch the African title after another outstanding performance in the Rwanda Mountain Gorilla Rally at the weekend.

The 18-year-old victory pushed his lead in the Africa Rally Championship standings to 9 points.

He continued a winning streak that started with victory in the KCB Safari in Kenya and was followed by last month’s win in the Pearl of Africa rally in Uganda. Japan’s Hideaki Miyoshi could only come second again.

Uganda’s flag bearers Bob Roberts and Moses Ssenkungu bowed out on the last day of the rally as their Mitsubishi Evo4 experienced problems with its shaft.
South African ‘Rally Chicks’ Lola and Megan Verlaque whose Subaru N10 broke a rear suspension, also failed to finish.

The next event is the Zulu Rally of South Africa May 24-27. Rautenbach will miss the Zambian International in August 17-19 to concentrate on the Junior WRC in Germany.
