Three policemen charged with theft

THREE Police officers attached to Jinja Road Police station were yesterday charged with embezzling sh51.6m and abuse of office.

THREE Police officers attached to Jinja Road Police station were yesterday charged with embezzling sh51.6m and abuse of office.

James Kiige, Steven Garubaale and Charles Andama were also accused of abuse of office before the Buganda Road Court Magistrate, Gaster Mugoya.

The money was alleged ly an exhibit recovered from Ronald Maganda, a taxi driver of Ntinda, a Kampala suburb, and John Odoto, a security guard attached to Securex Security Group. The two allegedly stole the money from Krishna Construction Company.

Prosecution led by Josephine Nanyonga, told court that the three Police officers on February 18, broke the safe in which the money was kept and stole it.

The court heard that investigations were still going on and the case was extended to May 24 for another hearing pending Police inquiries.

Meanwhile, Frederick Kiwanuka reports that two nurses were remanded by the Luweero chief magistrate for theft of drugs from Ngoma health centre.
Edith Akullu and David Sendege allegedly committed the crime on April 3, while on duty.
