PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has vowed to ensure that the information minister, Ali Kirunda Kivejinja, retains the Bugweri parliamentary seat. He said he could not let the area, once a stronghold of the Movement, be taken over by the opposition.

“I will camp in Bugweri to garner support for Kivejinja. I will meet my people and tell them to vote for that historical man. The Movement will do everything possible to uproot Katuntu from Bugweri constituency,” Museveni said while appearing on a local radio station in Jinja district on Tuesday night.

Abdul Katuntu is the Forum for Democratic Change candidate who last year petitioned the court to nullify Kivenjinja’s victory on grounds that he bribed and intimidated voters. The court cancelled the results and ordered a by-election.

The President explained that he had spent several days in Kamuli district in order to unite the residents who were divided over politics. He added that he had also sensitised them on development.

The President noted that he was mobilising the population to vote for the NRM candidate, Stephen Mubiru, in the Kamuli LC5 chairperson by-election which will ne conducted today.

Museveni also warned people against attacking his family and using abusive language after a caller accused the First Family of taking over Mabira Forest.
“You should criticise from a

well-informed point of view. You should know that SCOUL is owned by the Government because it has 51% shares, while Mehta has only 49%.

“I want to inform you that Mehta does not belong to our clan and can not surface at any of our clan celebrations,” Museveni asserted.
