DURING the recent Miss Uganda search in northern Uganda, last year’s Pearl of Africa Music Awards nominee for best hip hop artiste, BSG Labongo was the only (fairly) recognised artist that performed.
The rest were largely unknowns. Reason? The organisers say they want to give new artistes a chance to show-case their talent.
This has left most reknown artistes grumbling, saying they are being left out of the lucrative deal.
However, independent sources reveal that the local artistes are asking Miss Uganda organisers for not less than sh1m to perform just two songs!
This has prompted the organisers, most of who have worked in event management in the UK, to look for upcoming talent, which is equally good.
Since word started seeping out, upcoming artistes who would kill for the relatively low pay, are taking every advantage of the stand-off to make a quick buck for themselves.
