ISMAIL Katamba lifted a career best 210kg to win gold at the Africa Junior weightlifting championship in Tripoli, Libya, reports Norman Katende.
Katamba, who lifted 205kg at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, last year, improved his weight by 5kg in the event that attracted 20 countries.
It was a great boost for the fifth-placed finisher in Melbourne ahead of his Olympic Solidarity-arranged training stint in America later this year. He lifted in the 56kg category.
Another Ugandan, Mubarak Kivumbi, improved his personal best by 10kg to win bronze in the 62kg category with a total of 225kg.
Prossy Nyanga, discovered at the national trials last month, was good for silver after lifting a total 167kg in the women 63kg category.
