NCS action still leaves unanswered queries

THE Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) treated us to a fascinating sideshow over the past week as chairman William Kibuuka-Musoke, treasurer Timothy Kiwagama and organising secretary Davies Turinawe liberally traded accusations of financial impropriety.

But for the grave possibility that important sums of money had been swindled, the entire stand-off threatened to descend into a comical farce.

Two things come out of this episode. One, is the remarkable swiftness with which the National Council of Sports (NCS) acted to defuse the stand-off.

The Council, charged with playing a supervisory role, has long been synonymous with apathy whenever one of the sports federations is in an administrative muddle. FUFA’s continuing degeneration under Denis Obua, with the Council enjoying a ring-side view, is just one damning example.

However, and secondly, several queries persist from the tiff between Kibuuka-Musoke, Kiwagama and Turinawe. In brokering what could only be an uneasy truce, the Council attributed the misunderstanding to breakdown in “communication” within the association.

This is simplistic as no attempt was made to address the root of the problem, yet commanding evidence continues to suggest there is a problem within the UCA. NCS must surely bite deeper.
