DEAR Doctor, My wife gets her periods on the 22nd of every month. But she does not know her fertile days. Can you advise us? MM
Dear MM, Your wife has a fairly regular cycle. But it does not mean that she always ovulates (releases eggs) on the same day or that her fertile days are always the same.
We can approximate her fertile days from the knowledge of her cycle. Methods like the ‘MoonBeads’ do this. The knowledge of when one is fertile can be made more accurate by adding other indicators like;
The basal body temperature (it rises a little on the day of ovulation)
The state of cervical mucus
The position of the cervixM
The best thing to do is to have a consultation with a family planning adviser or midwife.
I am worried about my penis Dear Doctor, I am a 15-year-old virgin and my penis is bent to the left. Is it normal? Can it be cured? What is the right direction for the penis to bend? Is it meant to be straight? What can I do? Will it affect my future sex life? Chris
Dear Chris, Most penises are not ruler straight. A curve or bend to the penis is very common when erect. It is normal. The curve does not stop a person from having sex, nor does it affect fertility (having children). In a few men, the curve is caused by a foreskin which cannot be pulled back fully (retracted) when the penis is erect. This may be associated with pain when you have an erection. Such a person needs circumcision.
What should I eat? Dear Doctor, Which foods should someone lacking blood take? K.M Kabale
Dear KM, Anaemia (not having enough blood) is a symptom. Your doctor should try to find out why you do not have enough blood. If the problem can be corrected, then that is the first thing to do.
Of foods for blood, meat contains iron, one of the most important things for making blood. When a person lacks iron in the diet, blood levels will go down. Taking three moderate sized pieces of meat three times a week is enough. Many people tend to eat much more meat than their bodies need.
Green vegetables taken on a daily basis are very important. They contain a vitamin called folate, which is important for making blood. The vegetables should not be overcooked, because this destroys the vitamin. A balanced diet is one of the most important disease prevention measures.
