KIZZA Besigye’s brother, Joseph Musaazi Kifeefe, is still fighting for his life at Mulago Hospital where he is admitted for anaemia. Besigye, the Forum for Democratic Change leader, yesterday visited Kifeefe in Ward 6A and told The New Vision that the doctors were investigating “the possibility of cancerous blood.â€
He said his brother was still “very weak, anaemic with constant high fever.†Besigye added that since his admission to the hospital on April 30, Kifeefe’s condition had deteriorated further.
He said their family had suggested to take Kifeefe abroad for treatment, but they have to first secure his bail.
Kifeefe was admitted to Mulago from Luzira Prison with suspected lymphoma cancer of the white blood cells as a result of another illness.
At that time, doctors were treating high fever with Quinine and Cortem. Asked whether he was not contended with the treatment at Mulago, Besigye retorted: “You also know the kind of treatment one gets here. It would be to our patient’s advantage to refer his case abroad.â€
But the state minister for internal affairs, Matia Kasaija, recently said Kifeefe was under very careful treatment.
A few relatives are allowed to see him with prior permission from Prisons authorities. Kifeefe and Besigye are facing treason charges together with other People’s Redemption Army rebel suspects currently on remand in Luzira Prison.
He was last month transferred to Kampala from Nyamushekera Prison in Bushenyi district, after he complained of stomach-related problems.
Since his transfer, he has failed to appear in court on two occasions, citing poor health.
