Stop wrangles
WHE the Government decided that the headquarters of Nyadri district be in Nyadri trading centre, I thought everything was okay. I am now amazed that people in Terego are still not satisfied with the decision. I was also not amused by a suggestion that Terego and Maracha should become two separate districts. This is not viable and it should not be supported. We have spent a whole year engaged in wrangling. This must stop if anybody in this country is to take us seriously.
Amir Nyatibo,
Maracha

Follow the law

It has now become common for local leaders to censure or threaten to carry out votes of no confidence against their colleagues. On many occasions, such threats are made on shallow evidence. There are, however, a few instances where councillors have strong reasons for such moves, but the bottom line is that they should endeavour to follow the law. Nobody has powers to summarily chase away a town clerk, like it happened in Makindye. It must be done through a process that is clearly spelt out in the Local Government Act.
Steven Muwanguzi,
Kampala

Compensate us

Kibaale district absentee landlords have waited for long to be compensated, but nothing is happening. Land in the district was valued three years ago, but the finance ministry has not yet paid the landlords. I am requesting the local leaders to come out and explain the delay.
Sebastian Kakyomya,
Kibaale-Buyaga

Let’s work together

Kamuli district has just held one of the toughest LC5 elections in recent years. The race has inevitably caused some divisions among the people. However, now that the elections are over, let us work together. We have some of the lowest social indices in the country. Schools like Namasagali that used to put our name on the national map are no more. Let us work with the new chairman, Steven Mubiru, to move the district forward.
Ismail Magumba,
Namwendwa

Congs Masaka
All local leaders should buy a leaf from their colleagues in Kanoni, Masaka, who have started arresting residents without toilets. Residents who refuse to construct toilets must be handled with an iron hand.
Mariam Nalweyiso,
Masaka
