Sh232m water project launched

WATER state minister Jennifer Namuyangu on Thursday commissioned a sh232m water scheme at Rwerere trading centre in Rukungiri district.

WATER state minister Jennifer Namuyangu on Thursday commissioned a sh232m water scheme at Rwerere trading centre in Rukungiri district.

“On behalf of the Government, I hand over this project to you and it is upon you to maintain,” she told the local officials who were present.

Namuyangu said the project was jointly funded by the Australian government and the Government through the Small Towns Water and Sanitation Programme.
It will benefit about 3,400 people.

“This project should help you get out of poverty because you will no longer spend on treament of waterborne diseases.”

The minister affirmed that Government is committed to making safe water accesible.

Namuyangu explained that over 40 towns had benefited from the project since it started in 1995.

She added that 75 more towns would benefit in the next financial year.
Namuyangu also advised the residents to plant water-friendly trees at water sources to protect them.
