PASTOR Isaac Kiweweesi, the senior pastor of Kasanga Miracle Centre, is getting married next month — at last. The 38-year-old pastor’s long spell as a bachelor had become an issue to many believers in the Born-again fraternity, especially the elders, who were getting worried. Most felt he was setting a wrong example to the youth, for whom he was meant to be an idol. Others feared that his waiting for this long would attract temptation whose resistance had to have a limit.

Well, a source recently told The New Vision Kiweweesi invited a few friends to what he had called a birthday party in Bunga, only to shock them by pulling out an engagement ring and slipping it onto Barbara Sasha Kanyike’s middle finger. utl’s Hans Paulsen and Peter Sematimba were some of the guests at the private engagement party at Fire Masters’ boss Stokes’ residence.

Sources say the pastor resisted any attempts to pressure him into marriage. Stories abound at Kasanga Miracle Centre of young ladies who were ‘throwing themselves’ at the pastor.

A story is told of a girl who walked to Kiweweesi one day and said that God had sent her to him. The pastor is said to have sarcastically asked the girl whether it was God who had bought the wedding gown. When the girl said yes, the pastor reportedly told her to wait for the same God to send him a wedding suit.

Apparently, history is repeating itself. In 1992, when Pastor Robert Kayanja of Rubaga Miracle Centre announced his wedding, many girls were disappointed and expressed it in various ways. It is said that at his wedding reception, the bride reportedly lost her wedding shoes, unknown people tore her wedding gown and the wedding cake was smashed. One of the wedding committee members for Kiweweesi’s wedding, said he is aware of it and precautions are going to be taken at .

Recently, Kiweweesi told his congregation he has made his choice, ascertained the girl’s background and is contented that she is the traditionalist he has always wanted. “I have stepped out of the line. Whoever has a problem with that should deal with it. I am going to be married whether you like it or not.”

And church elders are thrilled and pledging big money for the occasion. It is confirmed that the kwanjula (introduction ceremony) will be held at Kanyike’s home on June 23.

A week later, on June 30, the couple will exchange vows at Rubaga Miracle Centre in front of Pastor Robert Kayanja. They will later host their guests to what is expected to be a spectacular reception at Namboole Stadium. The ceremony is expected to host up to 50,000 guests.

So, who is this Sasha and how has she managed to steal the pastor’s well-guarded heart?

She is 23-year-old Muganda girl who works with Uganda Telecom as a product value officer. She went to Kabojja Senior Secondary School, before going to UK for further studies.

Pastor Kiweweesi saw Sasha before she became a Born-again Christian, but the girl disappeared to the UK before he could study her.

Later, in June 2006, he met her again in London, where he had gone to show the new building of Kansanga Church to Christians there.

Sasha is in the country keeping a low profile. Since Kiweweesi’s proposal, she has been under tight security.
