TWO senior Umeme workers have been arrested for allegedly aiding the vandalisation of power cables. Tororo CID chief, Steven Akol, said Charles Wafula, a technical assistant and Moses Oloka, a power line assistant, both attached to Tororo branch were exposed by Joseph Obote, 30, a suspected cable thief.

Obote was electrocuted into coma while attempting to steal electric wires in Morukatipe, a Tororo suburb, last week. “When Obote regained consciousness, he named the two officials as accomplices,” said Akol.

When interrogated, the officers admitted to selling electric wires recovered by the Umeme operation team without the knowledge of the company, Akol explained.
