ON Sunday Makerere University students in Livingstone and Africa halls of residence celebrated the 36th Afrostone (Africa-Livingstone) Solidarity Culture Week.

They also celebrated the inauguration of the in-coming chairpersons of Livingstone and Africa, Mark Byaruhanga and Margaret Nabukeera, respectively. The chief guest was the former health state minister, Capt. Mike Mukula.

Mukula advised the students to keep the fire of solidarity between the halls burning. He commended the ladies for respecting the men.

Present at the ceremony were warden of Livingstone, Fred Kisembo, former chairlady Afrostone (1997-98), Brenda Tibamwenda, LC5 councillor Makerere University, Bernard Luyiga, former University Hall chairperson, Abdul Muhiire and Afrostone out-going chairpersons, Joshua Byabashaija and Doreen Arinaitwe among others.

Tibamwenda urged male students to always escort the ladies after meals, warning that if they (men) do not, the ladies should demand for it because it is their right under the solidarity.

Tibamwenda amused guests when she said: “Box (Mary Stuart hall) has women, while Africa hall has ladies.”
