THE best way to enjoy Belgium’s treasures is in the bar; so it appears. Belgians really love their beer; it showed at Le Chateau last Saturday. The Belgian Club that meets bi-monthly to drink, while honouring different kinds of achievements amongst its members, dedicated Saturday’s gathering to celebrate five fruitful years of SN Brussels in Uganda.

First, their beer mugs were the size of gourds. The ease with which they drank duvet beer was alarming; there was countenance and glee on their faces and you imagined honey and nectar were sliding down their throats.

As part of the fun, a beer-tasting competition was held between a French man and a Belgian. Blindfolded, they were supposed to tell a Belgian beer apart from Bell lager and Club. Belgian Koen Rombouts of SDV Transami who confessed he would sniff Belgian beer from a kilometre away, won. According to the managing director, Pierre Declerk, the five years have seen the airline embark 68,500 passengers.
