THE Anglican Archbishop, Henry Luke Orombi, has advised husbands to buy their wives perfumes, if their relationships are to last. He told a congregation at St. Peter’s and Andrew’s cathedral in Mukono, that on numerous tours abroad, he had bought expensive clothes and shoes for his wife, but she was never excited.

“But when I surprised her with a perfume, she almost went crazy. She knelt down and thanked me endlessly. I realised women and perfume are inseparable,” Orombi said, to the amusement of Phoebe, his wife and the congregation.

The archbishop said the perfume scent from the women could attract husbands who would have strayed.

Orombi decried rampant witchcraft in Mukono, stating that even husbands were flocking shrines to try to keep their marriages intact. He advised couples to develop trust.

“I have been married for 35 years, but I have never visited a shrine for anything. The key to this has been mutual love, trust and shared responsibility.”

The Church, Orombi noted, had the task of keeping the youth away from temptation.

“As a youth, I was a great smoker and drunkard. I also fell in love with nearly all girls and ‘terrorised’ the village.

“This made me popular, but thanks to the Church, I’m a changed person now.”

The archbishop, who was concluding his week-long pastoral tour of Mukono Diocese on Sunday, urged churches to build permanent structures and phase out the make-shift tents.

The Mukono diocese bishop, the Rt. Rev. Paul Luzinda, observed that progress was being made in retaining youth in the Church.

“We have attracted most youths into our choirs. Many of them are our ambassadors.”

Luzinda also warned Christians against hypocrisy.
