THE Lions clubs of Kampala Central and Kampala North last Friday installed their new presidents at the Grand Imperial Hotel in Kampala.
The charter to the Lions Club of Kampala North, which was recently curved out of Kampala Central, was also officially presented.
The relief and disaster preparedness minister, Prof. Tarsis Kabwegyere, who was the chief guest, advised Lions to portray liberty and intelligence and value safety in their service to the nation.
Quoting St. Mother Theresa of Calcutta, Kabwegyere called upon the Lions to be kind, honest and happy.
“If you find serenity and happiness, people may be jealous. But be happy anyway. People will forget the good you do today but do good anyway,†the minister quoted Mother Theresa.
He donated sh1m for Lions’ community work.
The governor of Lions Clubs International District 411B, Hashim Nkya, who officiated at the installation ceremony, appealed to the Lions to continue helping the needy.
“People join Lions clubs because they care about humanity. Membership into Lionism is a privilege. Lions comprise of men and women of goodwill,†he noted.
Nkya, a Tanzanian, who became a Lion in 1979, handed over a charter to Abdu Mulani Masaba, the president-elect of the new Lion Club of Kampala North and inducted 21 new members.
He also presided over the handover of the instruments of power from John Bosco Ntangaare, the outgoing president of the Lions Club of Kampala Central, to his successor, Eleanor Bageine. Lions clubs presidents serve for one year.
In their acceptance speeches, both Masaba and Bageine vowed to serve the community with utmost commitment just as it is stipulated in their motto, ‘we serve’.
