KABAKA Ronald Mutebi has challenged the Government and district administrations to return county and sub-county headquarters to his chiefs immediately.

He said this would help them to effectively run kingdom programmes.

The Government still occupies 18 county headquarters.

Addressing a congregation in Gomba, Mpigi district over the weekend, Mutebi said county, sub-county and parish chiefs should be supported because they formed the nucleus of Buganda’s cultural administration.

He was on Sunday attending a service at St. John’s Cathedral Kasaka, after prayers led the Rev. Can. Wilberforce Kabanda.

Last year, the Kabaka appointed a seven-member committee chaired by the former attorney general of the kingdom, J. W. Katende, to ensure the return of the assets of Buganda, including the 9,000 square miles.

Buganda is also still demanding a federal system of governance.

Properties returned include the Masaka Technical Institute, the administrative seat at Mengo, the palace and Mengo court.

Mutebi arrived in Gomba on Friday and toured projects and attended the launch of a sports gala at Kabulassoke PTC playground on Saturday.

During the service, Kabanda emphasised that Buganda was built under three pillars namely: culture, education and religious beliefs.

He added that the cultural was exhibited through behaviour and rubbished the common belief that culture is satanic.
