CELEBRATED Manchester United star, Rio Ferdinand, has urged parents to educate their children. Winding up his three-day tour of Pro-line Soccer Academy yesterday, Ferdinand said education should not only be geared at making money.

CELEBRATED Manchester United star, Rio Ferdinand, has urged parents to educate their children.

“Parents have to make education the first priority. All other things, like football, should come later,” he said.

Winding up his three-day tour of Pro-line Soccer Academy yesterday, Ferdinand said education should not only be geared at making money.

The academy identifies and develops football talent among youngsters.
Ferdinand added that it should instill other virtues like discipline.

In company of his father, Julian Ferdinand, he pledged to market the academy in Europe and help develop local talent.

“I would like to see Uganda produce players like Didier Drogba and Michael Essien in the future,” he said.
The Ivorian and Ghanaian stars respectively, play for Chelsea football club in England.

He also called for investment in local football clubs. “Money is nowadays a big factor in football. Soccer clubs have to invest if they are to reap.”

The soccer icon was overwhelmed by the multitude of supporters who welcomed him.

“I expected to see only five photographers and about 50 people. I’m glad for the support,” he said, amidst wild cheers from football fans.

Ferdinand conducted a training session for the youngsters. Mugib Kasule, the academy proprietor, said they needed sh900m to start a fully-fledged academy.
