I have lost shape
Dear Doctor,
Ever since I delivered three months ago, I am adding on weight daily. I don’t have enough time for exercise and my appetite is good. I have lost shape and I hate myself. Can I use herbs and slimming pills? Will they not affect the baby through breastfeeding? Please help!
Patience

Dear Patience,
From what you are writing, weight may not be the most important problem. You are also depressed. Is there anything else stressing you? Start by knowing what is worrying you. If you are eating to forget problems, dealing with them is the first step. Talk it over with your mate, a friend or elder person you respect. Consult a professional counsellor if possible.
A woman can lose weight after pregnancy, through a plan of exercise and reasonable dieting. Breastfeeding can can also give you an emotional boost. While you are breastfeeding, virtually every medicine you take gets to the baby. It is not advisable to use unnecessary drugs.

I get premature ejaculation?
Dear Doctor,
I get a good erection which is interrupted by premature ejaculation just seconds into sex. However, I don’t lose the erection and I am able to go on for a long time. I think it exposes me to risks because I ejaculate in the condom and still use it. It happens again even when I change the condom.
Henry

Dear Henry,
I suspect that what you are calling premature ejaculation is just a lot of pre-cum. Pre-cum (pre-ejaculate) is the clear fluid produced by your penis when you are excited. It is produced before you ejaculate or climax. The amount differs from person to person. Some people produce lots of it, others produce little. But it is all normal. This fluid (and ejaculate) does not make the condom less effective. It does not tear it, nor does it do any harm. It is not putting you at more risk.

My periods are irregular
Dear Doctor,
I have irregular periods which worry me. Are there any medicines that can regulate them?
Faridah

Dear Faridah,
Some women have regular periods every 24 days and others, every 30 days. Cycles differ for different women and sometimes, they may be skipped. This occurs often at the beginning of menses and near menopause. It may also occur when a woman is using some family planning methods. In these cases, a woman should not do anything.
Irregular periods caused by no release of eggs (ovulation) can be treated with drugs. For irregular periods, your doctor may recommend family planning pills for a few months to regulate periods, while preventing pregnancy.
