THE Police have created a one- kilometre buffer zone in Buliisa district to prevent further clashes between the Balaalo (herdsmen) and the indigenous Bagungu.

The sale of alcohol in Waiga, Kataleba, Kichooke and Bugana villages has also been banned.

The two groups are fighting over land in these villages.

The Inspector General of Police, Maj. Gen. Kale Kaihura, yesterday directed that the Buliisa MP, Stephen Mukitale Birahwa, be questioned over allegations that he was inciting violence between the Bagungu and the Balaalo.

Grace Bororoza, the leader of the Balaalo, yesterday told The New Vision that this would be the second time they were being evicted from Bunyoro.

“The Mukwano Group evicted us from land near Masindi port where we had lived since childhood. Mukwano compensated us and we were invited by the then Buliisa county.”

He said they bought land from the indigenous Bagungu and resettled.

His family owns over 120 head of cattle, he claimed.
