KAYUNGA resident district commissioner Margaret Balyehuki has ordered the closure of Ntimba Primary School in Galiraya sub-county for lack of a pit latrine.

The school, which has a total of 758 pupils, has for the last two academic terms been operating without a latrine.

Balyehuki ordered its closure on Thursday while addressing residents of Ntimba landing site on Lake Kyoga.

“Our pupils ease themselves in the nearby bushes because the parents refused to contribute sh500 each to dig a new latrine,” the headmaster, John Odaka, told Balyehuki.

Balyehuki expressed fear that diseases like cholera, dysentery and typhoid could break out due to the poor hygiene.
