Buggy clothes out, tight-fitting shirts in

WE have been through a period where it was fashionable to wear oversize shirts that had bold checks, patterns and stripes. However, that is in the past now.

Today, many urban men are discovering the allure of snug body-hugging shirts.
“For men these days, the trim or tight-fit look is the ideal for casual wear,” says a salesperson at Brovad Linens on Garden City

A tight-fitting shirt is narrower than ordinary shirts and they are also often shorter. Tight shirts are not to be tucked in. Some of the shirts are made of elastic fabric, which can accommodate a man’s huge torso.

Others come with short sleeves and are thus a perfect way of showing off the triceps.

Tight-fitting shirts are often worn with boot-cut jeans or with trousers that hug the body.

Brovad Linens has quite a collection of tight-fit shirts from designers like Burberry, Nordstrom, Paul Stuart and Brooks Brothers. They cost between sh70,000 and sh120,000 each.

“When you go shopping for tight-fitting shirts, go with a close friend or better still, a woman who can tell you honestly how you look when you try on the shirt,” says Grace Kensiimire, the proprietor of Clothing Boutique on Ivory Plaza. Her shop sells tight-fitting shirts from Eye and FCUK which she sells between sh50,000 and sh80,000.

“We have a hard time keeping up the stock,” Kensiimire adds, hinting on the demand for the tight-fitting shirts.
However, there are also tight-fitting shirts that are made for a more formal look. They come with long French-cuff sleeves.

Such shirts look trendy when worn to an evening party or even to office. No wonder they are so rare.

However, you could come across some of these shirts in the boutiques at the Katatumba suites near Uganda Bookshop. They go for sh150,000 and above.

However, you could also chance upon them in any of those shops in Zainabu Aziiza Emporium for sh30,000.

Beware not to buy secondhand shirts.
