The president of the Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Olive Kigongo, has taken the Mengo Grade One magistrate, Jolly Nkore, and city lawyer Arthur Mukwatanise to the Uganda Law Council.

Kigongo accuses Nkore of allegedly conniving with Mukwatanise to issue a warrant of arrest on May 10, purporting that she had failed to pay sh1m to Lubega Byayi, who had sued the chamber of commerce and won the suit.

She says that despite being the president of the commerce body, she was not party to the case between it and Byayi and never appeared in court over the matter.

Kigongo was represented by city lawyer Bob Kasango.

“The matter had been in court since 2003 and Mukwatanise who represented the plaintiff was fully aware that the parties to the suit were Byayi and the chamber of commerce but not I,” she stated in her complaint to court.

She said the arrest warrant was issued against her personally and signed by Nkore, who presided over the suit.

Kigongo complained that despite Mukwatanise’s knowledge of the matter, he had intentions to malice and embarrass her in public by issuing the arrest warrant.

She further accused Mukwatanise of making unsubstantiated allegations against her and her husband Al Hajji Moses Kigongo and had the claims published in the press.
