KAMPALA
Court heard on Friday that the interdicted Assistant Inspector of Police, Godfrey Obua, had confessed stealing sh170.5m meant for paying Police officers’ salaries. James kyomukama, the senior Police detective attached to the CID headquarters, told court that on interrogation, Obua admitted that in July 2006, he duplicated a key to a box where the money was kept. Obua was attached to Katakwi Police post before he was interdicted. Kyomukama said Obua’s testimony was also recorded in his extra judicial statement before Buganda Road Court Magistrate.

Probe on KCC starts work
KAMPALA
The commission of inquiry into the mismanagement of the central division affairs will today interrogate the finance officer and the central division security officer. The commission which was inaugurated on June 5 by local government minister Maj. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire, was expected to meet the Town Clerk, Ruth Kijjambu. The four-member commission chaired by the former East African Legislative Assembly member, Irene Ovonji Odida, told journalists at the Media Centre on Thursday that Kijjambu had assured them of total cooperation. Kijjambu is, however, out of the country on official duties.

3 shot dead in Kibaale
KIBAALE
A special Police constable on Saturday night shot dead three people and injured two others. Police sources identified the constable as Patrick Tumusiime attached to Kyakabadima Police post in Rugashari sub-county. Andrew Kawesi, a Police officer who was dispatched to the scene after the incident, identified the dead as Nyamaizi Dimitiria of Bihanga village, George Tusingwire of Kibwera village and Raphael Nzabonimpa who died at Kagadi hospital. Tumusiime had earlier quarrelled with the victims while having a drink in Kyakabadima market.
