AFEW years ago, Bella was that little girl with just one hit single to her name — the Yvette Seguya double act Anekutte, which seemed like a fluke.

Apparently not. This slim-bodied singer churned out more hits, including the smouldering dancehall tracks, Fasi and Dodo. Yet that was not all.

Before these ones, Bella had a stab at the RnB genre, treating us to the ballad Bwoba Oli Nange, a cheerful suggestion of romantic despair.

When she dropped that very successful club banger, Fasi, early last year, Bella was christened ‘Uganda’s Queen of dancehall’.

And by swiftly following Fasi with another crusty dancehall take in Dodo, Bella seemed all but living up to this title. Although most of us have come to know her as a playful flirt, we still have a couple of reasons to take her seriously.

With her eight-track album set to arrive in music stores soon, what else does she need?

Such success is probably not bad for a girl who went from trying out Afro beat, then RnB; to having a stab at dancing with the defunct Shadows Angels; then singing with the City Limit Crew and later going solo.

Indeed, what Bella is doing is what dancehall music is all about — just able to get us dancing. And those catchy hooks?

“I think that is just one of my talents. It just comes naturally,” she says.
Bella, with the help of a host of local artistes, including Bobi Wine, Bebe Cool, Juliana Kanyomozi, Priscilla Kalibala, Iryn Namubiru, Toolman, the City Limit Crew and Sarah Zawedde, will be live in concert tonight at Steak Out Bar starting at 7:00pm. Entrance fee is sh10,000.

The show, dubbed ‘Fire Concert’, will be Bella’s last concert in Kampala before she embarks on a tour of the US next month.
