THE house mouse (musmusaillus) just like the rat, has a compulsive need to gnaw electric cables, pipes, packages and woodworks. Mice live in small groups in field burrows and houses. They are usually active when it is dark, emerging from their hiding places in search of food. In agricultural areas, they dwell where there are foods like rice, maize, etc.

On farms, mice can be a menace to poultry, eating eggs, poultry feeds and even chicks. However, the scale of damage and disease transmission by mice is less extensive than that of rats. Mice very limited radius of activity or range of infestation. This should be put into consideration when taking measures of control.

Control measure
Baits of Racumin D and Racumin RB are the easiest ways of killing mice. Put down the baits in small amounts of about five to 10g per bait station, which should be given short space distances apart (about half to one metre) in all areas where the mice frequent. This should especially be in kitchens, food stores, cellars, lofts, etc.

Racumin has a subaculate, delayed effect on mice, therefore, a mouse has to eat it at least twice or thrice before dying a few days later. In dry regions, where water is a bit scarce, Racumin SL can be used.

This is diluted with water and then the solution is poured into cups or baby chick water fountains and the containers are then spaced as done for the bait stations. In sewers, the mice can be controlled using Racumin BB. The drug is moisture-repellent and also resists insects and moulds.

The Racumin bait blocks are placed on the benching of the sewer manholes, suspended and replaced at intervals of four to seven days. The use of bait blocks is recommended also in moist areas where there is a lot of rainfall as well as agriculture. Other control methods include hunting down the rodents and beating them to death.
