Planning chief quits
KAMPALA-The National Planning Authority (NPA) acting chairman, Dr. Frank Mabirizi, has resigned. He wrote to the finance state minister, Omwony Ojwok, on June 18, citing personal reasons for his departure that will take effect on September 30. The NPA was set up by the Government in 2003 to coordinate the process of national development. President Yoweri Museveni, in May 2003, appointed Mabirizi as the deputy chairman of the NPA and in March 2004, he became the acting chairman. A source preferring anonymity said his resignation could have been caused by the Government’s failure to confirm him as the chairman.

Another health insurance scheme has been added on the Ugandan market. Ugamed Health Insurance, to be managed by the East African Underwriters, a firm owned by the Madhvani Group of Companies, was launched on Thursday at Kampala Serena Hotel. It will work with medical institutions like African Air Rescue, International Air Ambulance and International Hospital Kampala. The East African Underwriters chief, Barrie Cambridge, said the scheme has an insurance shop, where subscribers can access services like personalised covers for travel and evacuation services. One such shop is at Garden City. About 2,200 people have already subscribed to the scheme.
