UNKNOWN assailants last week invaded the home of a former Makerere University don, Jose Osikol in Bugiri district killing two women. The victims were identified as Aiseri Singila, 84, his mother and Christina, 40, his widow.

Osikol, the former eastern coordinator for the Makerere University Centre for Continuing Education died in a car accident near the Mabira Forest stretch on Jinja Road two weeks ago.

The Police in Bugiri said the murderers attacked the victims during a heavy downpour, dragged them to the nearby bushes where they killed and buried them. A post-mortem report showed that the victims were mutilated.

Their private parts, breast, tongues and fingers were cut off and the eyes were gorged out. The incident took place in Bukonde village, Kapyanga sub-county.
Two men have been arrested in connection with the murder.

Osikol’s eldest daughter, whose identity could not be established, is in secondary school.

“I cannot believe we do not have a father, mother and grandmother. We only have these cemented graves filling the compound,” cried the distraught girl during the funeral service.

By the time of his death, Osikol was the programme officer for the Uganda Community-Based Association for Child Welfare.

A retired sub-county chief said the area had been plagued by several incidents of witchcraft and land grabbing.
