<b>Road works in progress </b><br><br>HOIMA-Over 130km of the 145km Busunju-Kiboga-Hoima road has been covered with a crushed stone-base, a layer that precedes tarmack. The Road Agency Formation Unit spokesperson, Dan Alinange, said 85% of the work on the 69km Kiboga-Busunju section was complete.

HOIMA-Over 130km of the 145km Busunju-Kiboga-Hoima road has been covered with a crushed stone-base, a layer that precedes tarmack. The Road Agency Formation Unit spokesperson, Dan Alinange, said 85% of the work on the 69km Kiboga-Busunju section was complete. “The entire section should be complete by September 2007. The contractor is remaining with approximately 6km to Busunju.” Alinange added that 75% of the 76km Kiboga-Hoima was completed, with only 9km yet to be covered with stone-base. In January 2004, the Government contracted Sterling Civil Engineering to upgrade the 144.9km Busunju-Kiboga-Hoima highway into a class II standard bituminous road.


61 die in road accidents

MASAKA-A total of 61 people died in road accidents between January and June 30, according a Police report. The officer-in-charge of traffic, Peter Kagina, said 155 people were injured among the 217 registered accidents. He added that 42 of the accidents were fatal, 100 serious and 75 minor. Three cyclists and 24 motorists died. Kagina explained that Kyazanga, Nkoni, Mbirizi and Katovu areas along the Masaka-Mbarara highway were among the dangerous spots. He added that other blackspots include Lwera, Matanga, Lukaya and Kyalusowe.
