KAMPALA City Council (KCC) will impose a fine of sh50,000 for persons who litter the city.Kampala mayor Nasser Sebaggala yesterday said defaulters would be imprisoned for three months.

He was speaking at the launch of the second phase of the Keep Kampala Clean campaign at Shoprite on Entebbe Road, in which KCC will set up 500 concrete-litter bins on the streets.

The project is funded by Clear Channel Independent Uganda, a South African-based firm. Sebaggala said KCC would empty the bins daily.

The general manager of Clear Channel, Deon Viljoen, said the project cost $200,000m (about sh320m), adding that the bins weighed 400 kilogrammes and were long lasting.

“It is our wish that the litter bins remain in the condition they are in today.”
