Rain, rain, rain! Will someone tell the rain to spare the Bell Lager and Celtel Uganda- sponsored Pearl of Africa Music (PAM) awards events! Rain has affected most of the previous PAM events and last Saturday’s was not any different. As artistes were getting ready to entertain revellers, the rains were just as ready.

They waited for the rains to subside in vain. The show had to be postponed to Sunday. There was also talk on one local radio station alleging that the PAM management “chose” little-known artistes.

This year, PAM management decided to request listeners to nominate their own curtain-raisers. In Lira, Unity FM and Rhino FM were used, though allegedly not to the satisfaction of some locals.

On Sunday, straight from church, crowds thronged Lira Hotel’s backyard and chose strategic spots ahead of the afternoon show. And when the time finally came, Kampala-based Stingerz dance group set the pace with waist-twisting strokes. Oket Ikica United, Rasta Cobra, Rasta Jajja Uhuru and Kampala-based Rocky Giant lit up the event, while Rhino FM’s Ken, Unity FM’s Fabby and Record TV’s Sandra Babirye were the emcees.

Other performers were hoarse-voiced Godfrey Tia Lucky a.k.a Brazen Rule, who sang in Swahili, Langi and English.

Kalikwan, who performs with his White wife, also entertained the crowd, but it was crowd-puller Lucky Bosmic Otim who raised the bar. His songs prompted Alur County MP Ondonga Otto to part with sh10,000.

Grace Atim, Fort Portal’s Moses Kigambo and Languna also excited revellers. A brief drizzle sent many scampering to tents, but on seeing artiste Bebe Cool, they all dashed back as if he had gifts for them. Kid Fox, Priscilla, Shana and Dogman also performed.
