HOTEL Africana’s new $6.7m (sh12b) wing will be opened in October, just a month before the Commonwealth meeting, writes Patrick Jaramogi. The proprietor, Bulaimu Muwanga Kibirige (BMK), said in an interview: “The construction works are complete. What is left is furnishing the 110 rooms with state-of-the art equipment.”

“Our guests will have a better view of Kampala city using the panoramic lifts that are being fitted,” he said. Earlier, he told guests during celebrations to mark the hotel’s 10 years that Ugandans should be proud of the hotel because it represents an African perspective.

BMK said all the hotels’ rooms had been booked in advance for the Commonwealth meeting. The general manager, Paul Akivembe, said: “Guests keep voting us the best.”
