THE Veterans Sports Gala that lasted a week at Kampala Club ended in style with oldies showing off different strokes that featured during their early years. However, despite referring to them as veterans, the old men and women could almost go for all strokes on the dance floor, just like the youth.

However, despite referring to them as veterans, the old men and women could almost go for all strokes on the dance floor, just like the youth. This is just because they are always running around on courts, playing games.
At the closing dinner dance at Kampala Club swimming pool, the chief guest, Prof. Fredrick Sempebwa, also former chairman of the club revealed the tactic of accumulating age while remaining in shape and medically sound.
“People should mark what they eat, exercise and avoid overdrinking,†he said. He urged organisers to categorise the competition to allow veterans compete among relative age categories such that they do not overstretch themselves.
The big dancers of the evening were Dr. Ben Mbonye, Lt. Gen. Ivan Koreta and Prof. Sempebwa. The function was sponsored by the Bank of Uganda and Gold Star Insurance Company.
Veteran singers, Dan Mugula, Freda Namuddu, Fred Masagazi and Prof Walter Thomas of Makerere Business School Nakawa entertained guests.
However, many of the veterans did not enjoy the competition because of the ealier loss to the younger players. A.D. Ssozi was given a trophy for being the eldest veteran still playing tennis at Kampala Club.
The governor of the Bank of Uganda, Emmanuel Mutebire and Sir Richard Kaijuka, attended.
